City renews contract for employees and dependents HOLLYWOOD - September 30, 2003 - Vista Healthplan, Inc. (VISTA), a health benefits company, announced today that the City of Hallandale has renewed its contract to provide health insurance benefits to its employees for a third consecutive year. The City's 460 employees and their dependents will have access to VISTA's network of more than 5,000 primary care physicians and specialists. "VISTA provides our employees with access to affordable quality health care services from one of the largest physician networks in South Florida, " said George Amirian, director of personnel for the City of Hallandale. "Staying with VISTA helps us keep our health care costs under control and meets our employees' broad range of health care needs." Employees will have a choice of two plan options. Those selecting the health maintenance organization (HMO) will choose a primary care physician to coordinate their care and enjoy in-network benefits including low out-of-pocket co-pays and preventive services covered at 100%. Employees choosing the point-of-service (POS) plan will have both in- network and out-of-network benefits. When choosing a provider in the network POS members enjoy the same co-pays and low out-of-pocket costs as HMO members. Slightly higher out-of-pocket costs will apply when the member chooses a provider who does not participate in VISTA's network. Both plans include preventive services, a prescription drug benefit and access to VISTA's disease management and pre-natal programs. "The renewal signifies the value, affordability and service VISTA delivers to its employer groups." Vista Healthplan, Inc. was awarded a three-year "commendable" accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the highest level of accreditation awarded to a health plan, in October 2002. The accreditation includes the plan's commercial, Medicare and Medicaid HMOs. Organizations seeking AAAHC accreditation undergo a rigorous and extensive on-site survey of system wide mechanisms for evaluating providers of care functioning within managed care systems, and for assuring standards of compliance. The standards address such critical issues as the organization's communication mechanisms to patient members; grievance resolution systems; consumer information; appeals procedures; and utilization management.
